Tea Tree

One of the most versatile and most scientifically researched essential oils, tea tree is a “must have” in your fragrant aromatherapy set. Antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and immune system stimulating powerful tea tree essential oil can be used directly on the skin if necessary. Therapeutic properties of tea tree were already known to Australian aborigines a few hundred years ago. Aborigines used the bark of a tea tree to build sheds, canoes, make knife pouches. They also chew freshly cut tea tree leaves in case of colds, sore throat or any infectious disease. Tea tree leaves have also been widely used to treat wounds. In Europe, tea tree appeared back in 1927 and researchers immediately evaluated the therapeutic properties of this plant. During World War II, soldiers who fought in tropics used tea tree as a remedy. Today, tea tree essential oil is widely known and used in dentistry, cosmetics, perfumery and the chemical industry. Tea tree essential oil is used for the prevention of colds, for care of damaged, infected, rash affected skin, the reduction of viral diseases on skin. It is also a strong antiseptic in cleaning home surfaces and air during epidemics.

How to use:

  • If you are ill or feel like you may be catching a cold, diffuse tea tree essential oil in an electric diffuser. Essential oils clean the air and prevent the spread of infections indoors. Add 6 to 8 drops of essential oil to the diffuser during the day, 3 to 4 drops at night. Keep in mind that intense aromas can disturb a restful night sleep.
  • Try the following aromatherapy synergies:

– Clean Air Genius: 2 drops of tea tree, 2 drops of eucalyptus radiata and 4 drops of lemongrass essential oils;

– In case of flu, pneumonia or severe cough (adults only!): 3 drops of tea tree, 3 drops of eucalyptus radiata and 3 drops of rosemary essential oils;

– For immunity: 2 drops of tea tree, 2 drops of thyme and 4 drops of lemon essential oils;

– Clean air: 2 drops of tea tree, 3 drops of bergamot and 3 drops of grapefruit essential oils.

  • If you don’t have an electric diffuser make your own spray: in a dark glass bottle add 100ml of water and 50 drops of tea tree essential oil, screw on the nozzle, vigorously shake the bottle, and spray as needed. Shake every time before using as essential oils are insoluble in water.
  • Make your own indoor spray Clean Air Genius: to a dark glass bottle with 100ml of water add 10 drops of tea tree, 10 drops of eucalyptus radiata and 25 drops of lemongrass essential oils. Shake well each time of use and spray as needed.
  • During epidemics, colds and infectious diseases, add 10 drop of tea tree essential oil to a bucket of water, dip the cloth or mop into the bucket and clean your furniture surfaces and floors. It will clean the surfaces and will stop the growth of infection.
  • As soon as you feel like you are catching a cold, activate your immune system immediately. Rub your feet soles with pure, undiluted tea tree essential oil 2 to 3 times a day. It is a great first aid for the immunity.
  • Prepare the legendary Bugaboo for runny noses. Add 6 drops of tea tree oil to 20ml of sweet almond oil, blend it and apply a small amount of oil into the nostrils, as often as every 2 hours. For smaller babies apply it with a cotton ear bud, older children and adults can use their finger.
  • Aromatherapy rinses can help to control sore throat symptoms, stomatitis, periodontal disease, discomfort after dental procedures and unpleasant mouth odour: add 3 to 5 drops of tea tree essential oil to a tablespoon of table salt, add it to a glass of warm water, mix it well, and rinse and gurgle several times a day. Procedure is suitable for adults and older children who are able to consciously rinse and spit.
  • Give a fight back to cold sores. As soon as you feel the first symptoms and itchiness, apply pure tea tree essential oil on the damaged skin. Repeat the procedure every hour or two until the blisters are completely dry.
  • For chickenpox, apply each blister with pure tea tree essential oil several times a day. The tea tree will not only dry the blisters quickly but also disinfect them, protect against infection and reduce itching.
  • If you feel a pimple on your face or back, apply pure tea tree essential oil directly on the inflamed skin (topically). Tea tree oil disinfects, dries and prevents acne from growing. You can also add a few drops of tea tree essential oil to the face or body wash (add drops into a single amount of product, at the time of use, as the essential oils added to the full product packaging may change the consistency).
  • Make your own antibacterial soap. Add 20 drops of tea tree essential oil into 200ml unscented liquid soap, shake well to make sure soap and oil are mixed well and enjoy.
  • Tea tree essential oil amazingly deodorizes the body. If you are bothered with heavy sweating or unpleasant body odour, drip pure tea tree essential oil into the unscented shower gel. Add drops into a single amount of product to your palm at the time of use, as the essential oils added to the full product packaging may change the consistency.
  • Preparing a foot bath can help with foot sweating and bad odour. Add a handful of baking soda and 20 drops of pure tea tree essential oil to a basin of warm water.
  • Tea tree is a great remedy against dandruff. Add a few drops of tea tree oil to your regular shampoo and wash your hair. You can do this with a conditioner or a mask as well; tea tree will make your hair shine too. Add drops into a single amount of product to your palm at the time of use, as the essential oils added to the full product packaging may change the consistency.
  • If your scalp is very dry and you are suffering with dandruff, prepare the following hair mask: to 50ml of camellia oil add 6 drops of tea tree essential oil and 6 drops of lavender essential oil. Rub the scalp and hair roots with the blend, wait 20 to 30 minutes and wash with your usual shampoo. Such mask will nourish and sooth, and will help to reduce dandruff.
  • Tea tree essential oil is extremely skin friendly. If necessary, you can always use it pure and undiluted. If necessary: apply a small amount to wounds, mosquito bites, scratches, blisters, abrasions, bedsores or any other small skin lesions.
  • Tea tree perfectly masks the smell of the body, so it repels mosquitos and ticks. Make an effective spray repellent: in a dark glass bottle add 50ml of tap water and 30 drops of lemongrass, 15 drops of tea tree, 20 drops of lavender and 10 drops of eucalyptus radiata essential oils. Shake well before each use since essential oils are insoluble in water. Spray it on clothing, skin or your pet. Suitable for babies from 6 months old and the whole family, including pets.
  • To enhance the effect of the repellent spray, apply pure tea tree essential oil directly on clothing: cuffs, trouser ends, hats, shoes, outwear and so on. Essential oil will gradually evaporate using body heat and will protect you from insects for a much longer time.
  • If you suffer from urinary tract inflammation (UTI), add a spoonful of baking soda and 10 drops of tea tree essential oil to a sedentary bath with warm water. Sit in it for 10 to 15 minutes and after massage your lower abdomen and back area with the following blend: 20ml of sweet almond oil, 6 drops of tea tree and 4 drops of chamomile essential oils.
  • Aromatherapy bath with tea tree essential oil has an antibacterial effect, stimulates immune system, helps with colds, eases breathing and improves expectoration.
